This is probably the result of:-
a) Her Yahoo account having been compromised.
b) People on social networking are high targets.
Yes, it could happen to anyone. Make sure you have
a Strong password. In today's terms this means
a password at least 12 characters long based on
a mix of non-dictionary words and numbers. Stress
on "mix". For example "foobar123456" is not strong,
but "fo12ob34ar56" is.
Do not use the same password for all your accounts.
You must also have an up to date virus scanner installed
(the best free ones are AVIRA, AVAST, AVG) <-- in that order
and a SPYWARE/ROOTWARE scanner (SuperAntiSPyWare is the
best free one at present, Lavasoft Adaware is also passable)
Keylogger malware is a major menace today. Even Govt websites
are not immune - the Rajya Sabha questions asked website was
notorious for spreading Chinese malwares.
Do not fill out your Password on any website form. On
every "log-in" page verify that it a "secure" site by
checking it is "https://" and not "http://". Also look
for the lock icon in the bottom right hand corner of your
browser.
If anyone knows Nutan Thakur, please inform her.
Needless to say, dont send any money to Lagos.
