3) I had not clarified that Indian Evidence Act is not applicable to arbitration proceedings. Contra, I had informed Raj that IEA is only applicable in cases of judicial proceedings )which does not include arbitration proceedings)
4) The definitions of IEA are limited only for the purposes of the IEA. However, definitions
may be used for guidance only (ie. unenforceable) to clarify usage in other laws where they are not explicitly defined (or in the Gen Clauses AcT). The defined terms and procedures of any law (like the IEA) do not have a life of their own outside of the relevant statute. As the CIC is a body authorised to take evidence, the IEA comes into play at that stage (ie when evidence is to be taken - and not when the law is being interpreted)
