If some officers have been carried over by their deep emotions, their reaction can be seen as an emotional outburst and not an attempt to subvert the Constitution or the Legal system. The insensitivity of this Government and their even paying a lip service and at least making a soothing statesman for the aggrieved relatives (in this case the whole nation) felt outraged and some under deep emotions and grief suggested action contrary to our legal system. But you being a senior journalist og a reputed Magazine, who would have reported many such cases (as per your own claim) should be an objective observer and commentator. Are your comments worth to be attributes to a seasoned journalist, who is expected to be truthful and report the facts even when his or her close family member has suffered in the hands of the Army ( in the context raped). How can you make such extreme allegations like-" Army oversees the largest collective rapes-----" and furthe concluding that "I have not heard about the rapist ever brought before the Law".
I am sorry to say but your statements are such that one would not like to believe that these are coming from a journalist- whop are seen as one of the Pillers of Democracy.. It is highly IRRESPONSIBLE and goes against the grain of any responsible citizen to berate the Army by making such false claims. I am not implying that there would have not been a single case of misdemeanor by Army personnel, but if you had tried to find the4 facts about their being to Law, you would have found out that every case reported has been dealt with harsh punishment by the Army courts. Try to find out and you will find that officers of such units, who were not directly responsible for such act, have been dismissed from service withe no benefits in future. Even in many frivolous cases the punishment has been too harsh. And Mr. Shafi Rahman
you may be surprised to know that today most of those charged with any offense prefer to be tried by civil court to the trial by Army authorities.
Please report the truth with facts it does not do any good to the reputation of the Magazine or to the community of journalists, specially who ian associate Editor, who as I understand is also responsible for other reporters/ correspondents that their reportage is not based on wild guess or under charged emotions.

there is no point in army boycotting new year eve celebrations. The army oversees the largest collective rape in the country. From north-east and kashmir to where ever they are allowed to free wheel, the army go on raping the citizens. i have not heard about the rapists in uniform ever brought to face the law. The army should act on the rapists in its ranks instead of boycotting new year celebrations.--

We need to ponder upon the points raised. We have elected the politicians that sit in Parliament today and yesterday and those that we will elect in the future. Unless each one of us in civvy street and in the armed forces can - hand over heart - say that we are above reproach can we or should we pass judgement on our representatives in Parliament.Remember there is no country on this planet so heavily populated and so diverse in every human dimension than our India. We have been a democracy for just 65 years. It has taken 300 years and more for countries like the UK and the USA to evolve into so-called 'mature' democracies. Even they, as is evident in the USA today, have an opposition similar to ours - stifling every reform suggested by the Government in power - just to make a point to gain attention and somehow come back to power. (Please note - I am not making a point for the Government in power today). That is what democracy is all about. We can, of course, go back to medieval times - cut off immediately the hands of thieves and the equivalent part for rapist or hang them all from the nearest tree. But - do we want this ???Don't forget that you and I in uniform have much to crow about. Our India is the only country in the sub-continent that has not fallen to military dictatorship. The only armed force that has only one four star General for a standing Army as large as ours. The only country with such mind-boggling diversity and such stratification in society as a whole, to stay the course as a democracy however full of holes it is.There is a judicial committee that is now looking into the matter of rapes. They are open to receiving all points of view. They will ponder the matter and prepare a report. Any discussion in Parliament today is not going to be productive --- neither you nor I can disagree. Remember - even hurry takes time. This Honey Singh(?) crooner, has been singing songs all over the country titled, after translation, "I am a Rapist". The audience both men and women have been lapping it up and clapping and paying handsomely to hear him!Our armed forces have today set the example for the whole country. All service New Year Eve functions all over India were cancelled at the last minute despite the money and effort spent in preparation. Please - let us not lower ourselves to such mean depth as to even suggest a boycott of Republic Day.RegardsG Kailath(Commodore G KailathAVSM, NM, VSM, Retd)

Lets not go overboard and follow what the masses are doing. Has any one of you tried to listen in to what the crowds are harping on? Sheer nonsense I would say if you look at it pragmatically. Absolute crap.
Government should do this and do that. Absolute nonsense. What are you as masses doing to stop all the nonsense going around you? You talk about bringing discipline amongst the stray humans!!? Well, they are all someones brothers and sons. Tell me if I am wrong? They all couldn't be bastards.
You talk about eliminating corruption!!? Who are corrupt? You, me and our community of humans!!? Anna this and Anna That!!!? Nonsense. Lokpal pao ya jao? Utter silly argument. Can each one of take a pledge that no one in our family will indulge in corrupt practices? NO and a BIG NO. We haven't the guts to take this kind of a pledge. Can we swear that none of our family members will indulge in humiliating women who are the PRIDE of Mankind? Again a BIG NO. We are nothing but a bunch of spunk less eunuchs debating on which brand of contraceptive we could use.
The Opposition does not allow the Parliament to do its business and we just watch and laugh. Why don't you all walk into the well of the house and thrash the bastards whom you have voted into power for disrupting the proceedings?
So, just sit down and stop masturbating.
Be pragmatic and show some true mettle in you or else keep the discussion to your drawing rooms.

I concur with views of Maj Kapur and Mr Kumaran.Ashok Coomar-------Original Message-------From: Promod KapurDate: 12/31/2012 8:43:32 PMSubject: Re: [IAC#RG] PRESS RELEASE. Death of Delhi's innocent gangrape victim.Dear Mr. Kumaran,
Though your suggestion of boycotting Republic Day would seem too harsh, but in the circumstances is the appropriate response.
There seems to be no real democracy, no freedom for the vast majority of citizens, and worse no republic in the real sense. The politician and the babu decide what is good for strengthening crony capitalistism - you and me do not count. The powers of the states are being usurped in several ways by the Centre, so why celebrate what is not? We as a society stand shamed, what is there to rejoice? The defence services are downgraded, what is there to show off? Our public conduct has crossed all limits of decent acceptable limits, what culture or heritage do we claim and what do we want to celebrate?
The befitting alternative to Republic Day celebrations and Independence Day celebrations in all state capitals and district HQ across the country would be to erect a symbol in a public place in memory of the young Indian woman who galvanised the youth of entire nation to seek a change from the current unresponsive, insensitive system and take a pledge, year after year with a resolve to be the change that we want to see.

Sir,
The govt is silently watching the powerful peace protest. It is hoping that, it will die down from today, being a working day. This is a wishful thinking. The govt is likely to plant some miscreants to break peace and blame it on peaceful protestors. It is now that we all should act and continue to exert pressure, so that the momentum is not lost.
We should also consider boycotting the "Republic Day" celebrations.

To all media
Sub: PRESS RELEASE Death of Delhi's innocent gangrape victim.
India Against Corruption regrets the unnecessary loss of live of another innocent female victim in Delhi by a gruesome crime against humanity.
The wishes and sympathies of IAC's entire community goes out to her family members in their time of grief.
IAC is concerned that the competent authority - Lt. Governor of Delhi was allegedly vacationing abroad when the incident occurred and his rudderless office could not respond to IAC's communications during the crisis as required under the Right to Information Act 2005.
IAC is concerned that Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt Shiela Dikshit seemingly behaved in a partisan and selfish manner and allegedly interfered with the investigation of the crime and medical treatment of the victim for her own political purposes.
IAC is concerned that the office of the Transport Commissioner of GoNCTD Delhi is an Authority steeped in corruption which facilitated the death of this innocent victim.
IAC resolves to carry this incident forward to ensure that measures are taken to prevent such incidents in future.
