I do not share the emotional enthusiasm with regard to the success of AAP.
There have been lot of criticisms and suspicion about the leadership of AAP, which claimed that it collected over rupees twenty crores by way of donation from supporters. Even if so, it has not so far said how it spent it and what was the money spent on individual candidate. It has also not revealed whether its candidates were asked to bring their own money for campaigning. Many people have said that receiving donation from NRIs who are not eligible voters in India is illegal and such criticism has not been answered.
During the election campaign, there was allegation in sting operation about a member of AAP and the CD was handed over to election commission. AAP said that the election commission has cleared it but election commission immediately issued a statement that it has not cleared it. It is not still clear as to what is the final view of the election commission in the matter.
There are several illegal demands made by AAP earlier such as asking the people not to pay electricity bill etc. which cannot come from a responsible outfit. There have been several criticisms about Kejriwal not returning his dues to the Income tax department where he served , until it was brought in the public domain.
The country has seen so many political outfits and political leaders, who gain popularity and win votes by tall talking about ethics , fighting against corruption etc. and finally proved to be just the opposite when they capture power. We have heard about several disciples of Jayaprakash Narain who once fought against corruption under the leadership of J P and then became corrupt themselves when they came to power.
It is necessary to realise that people have voted for AAP as their vote against prevailing corruption in the country. It does not automatically mean that they believe that the people behind this party would be of Gandhian standards of probity in public and private life.
It is too early to applaud AAP and one has to keep the fingers crossed. It still has a long long way to go to prove its credentials.
