CABLE FLASH: New Delhi, 23-March-2013, 11:03 (IST)+5:30 GMT.
In a sudden yet widely expected decision which is likely to unfold
over the next few weeks, the young and newly selected Vice President
of India's ruling National Congress Party has decided to confine
himself to building the party infrastructure in States where it is
organizationally weak. To a pointed question put to him on dynastic
succession in his party at a meeting of young workers of the Congress,
the Vice President said that the Congress Party has no shortage of
leaders and indicated that any of the party General Secretaries could
aspire to the post of India's Prime Minister when the Party comes to
power in the next polls. Rahul Gandhi then declined to comment if his
close adviser and a Party General Secretary Raja Digvijaya Singh was
in the running for the top government position.
