We were asked to light candles on 5th April but many overzealous morons celebrated those nine minutes bursting fire crackers. Who would explain to them that a pandemic is no time for celebration? It is bewildering from where people got crackers at a time when even essential commodities are unavailable during this lock-down. The risk that these firecrackers posed to those that carry or use hand sanitizer gels must have been immense.
With this virus just getting worse by the day, the concerted priority has to be to stifle the spread of the pandemic through widespread testing, rigorous quarantines and scrupulous social distancing while ensuring that hygiene is maintained at all times.
With the 21- day lock-down due to end on 14th April the country must swiftly plan now on what happens after the lock-down if the virus is not defeated. And in deciding this there has to be an extensive consultation with all the political parties and the input of all the Chief Ministers would be imperative. More importantly the guidance of the health experts and economists would be paramount on how to combat COVID-19 while attempting to rescue and revive our economy which is now in dire straits facing the greatest ever economic emergency since Independence.
Failure to plan effectively and competently is planning to fail! No stone must be left unturned to plan ahead and effect measures that will deal with the pandemic, protect the safety and health of the people, our front-line heroes and mitigate any unnecessary inconvenience to ensure a speedy recovery to social and economic normality.
