It is human psychology to resist anything that is imposed, while we go after, paying through our nose, to do things we like, like learning fro e.g., Russian to work under a a Russian boss or marry a Russian lady. That is the subtle difference. Democracy is about the majority opinion, but minorities too need attention.

IMPOSITION OF HINDI ON NON HINDI SPEAKING STATES
It is surprising that those in charge of policy making in NDA government do not understand the intensity of the anger and frustration amongst the people in the non Hindi states due to the subtle attempts of Modi government to gradually impose Hindi.
The genuine fear of the people in the non Hindi speaking states is that they would be reduced to second class citizens in the country if Hindi would be imposed , as those speaking Hindi will get distinct advantage over the non Hindi speaking people at the national level.
Mr. Naredndra Modi does not seem to be aware of the intense and popular anti Hindi agitation in non Hindi speaking states particularly in Tamil Nadu, when Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri was the Prime Minister. Schools and colleges had to remain closed for around three months in Tamil Nadu due to anti Hindi protest by the students. Finally, Mr. Shastri had to give an assurance that Hindi would not be made national language so long as non Hindi speaking people would not want it. The situation has not much changed as far as the imposition of Hindi is concerned.
Today, India has enough problems and there is no feelings of difference in the country on language issue. Mr. Narendra Modi should not create new issues by trying to impose Hindi.
Even today, many people in non Hindi speaking states , particularly in Tamil Nadu , feel like aliens as they do not understand Mr. Modi speaking Hindi everywhere without any translators. When he spoke in Hindi to the school children on Teacher’s Day , lakhs of school students in non Hindi speaking states felt left out and wondered as to whether the Prime Minister belong to Hindi knowing people only.

Re: [IAC#RG] IMPOSITION OF HINDI ON NON HINDI SPEAKING STATES
It is important that the local languages need to have a precedence in local area. Imagine a situation when a staunch Tamilian who is first an Indian lands up at Gaya in Bihar for the pind daan during Pitripaksha that is on now. If he does not know Hindi or English he will have numerous problems conducting himself.. This is exacly felt when one from Bihar lands up at Chennai central station to visit TN he is at a loss to conduct himself because even English is a Taboo. So an Indian is not at home in every part of the country and the right to seek job all over the country and to settle down anywhere in the country as enshrined as our fundamental rights is not enforced due to parochial tendency of all who are not in majority in the country. Strangely Bollywood films are watched and enjoyed all over the country alongwith the TV entertainment channels.
The assurance given by Mr Nehru & Mr LBS during the anti Hindi agitation in 64-65 are verbal and is respected as assurance but the constitution that is applicable to all and is written has given Hindi a position as a link language though not as the national language..
In the name of minority rights even the constitution is being disrespected to which everyone taking oath to follow, & thus committing a perjury but who cares. That is the reasons for so many regional parties to flourish who should not have been allowed to dab in National politics. And this is exactly the scenario today. The statement of unity in diversity is no go statement just for self glorification.
