RTI request leads to scuffle at BBMP office http://www.hindu. Staff Reporter M. Pari had sought information on building plan sanction He wanted to know action taken in cases of violations Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) headquarters on Wednesday witnessed unruly scenes after the former councillor M. Pari and a few others reportedly barged into the Joint Director's (Town Planning – North) chamber and abused him. According to BBMP officials, Mr. Pari had filed an RTI application seeking some information on building bye-law violations. "He later claimed the information he received was inadequate. He was asked to appeal, if needed, to the Information Commission. "Mr. Pari, however, paid no heed and barged into the office of a senior official and verbally abused him," sources said. When contacted, Mr. Pari said that in his RTI application, he had sought details such as of the number of high-rise building plans that had been sanctioned, the number of bye-law violations detected and action taken (if any) against the engineer concerned as per directions of BBMP Commissioner. "Though the application was filed over a month ago, I did not receive any information. The BBMP officials take money and issue commencement, completion and occupation certificates without conducting spot inspection," he alleged. He added that he had informed the officials concerned around four days ago that he would stage a protest against what he called the civic authority's cavalier attitude. |
