Yahoo group to oppose Irwin Road widening - Deccan Herald, e-Paper, Page 3, Mysore or Mysuru City, Karnataka, Wednesday, April 15, 2015
Mysore / Mysuru: A social activist has created a Yahoo group https://in.groups.yahoo.com/irwinroad to oppose the proposed widening of the Irwin Road in Mysuru.
Syed Tanveeruddin, the activist, has said that he has created the group so that law-abiding and apolitical (non-political/nonpolitcal/unpolitical or politically neutral) persons, who are interested in legally fighting against the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) and Mysore District Administration's proposal to widen Irwin Road in Mysuru may come together .
Various activists are opposing the plan as they argue that widening of any road will not solve the problem of congestion as the number of vehicles keep on growing with every passing day.
They also argue that the Irwin Road, which connects the Mysuru/Mysore City Railway Station (MCRS) to the Sub-Urban Bus Stand (SBS) has heritage value as it is dotted with various heritage buildings, including the Wellington Lodge built in 1799.
