RE: [IAC#RG] Fleecing Hospitals and doctors

A large number of divergent views are emerging mainly because some of the individuals giving their views are Economic Man, other could be Material Man, Divine or Social or Spiritual Men or a combination of all.
However, in Socialism many wrong practices are deliberately encouraged by many political leaders, insensitive bureaucrats and false Dealers of Hope and many others like some doctors, CAs. advocates/lawyers, businessmen and even teachers. In socialism punishing honest men is very common. I have travelled nearly all the countries of the world, practice vary considerably in Poland, Russia, Pakistan, USA, UK, Germany, Australia etc. In Liberal countries where politics is by and large a noble Endeavour, even doctors follow very honest and straight forward practices.
The sovereign citizens of India have not ubderstood that most of our problems of corrupt practices are due to our rudderless socialism and there is no move to change the system of governance. Fleecing by doctors, CAs, lawyers/advocates, businessmen, bureucrats, false gurus/swamis, property dealers and others will continue and soon reach a stage endangering the freedom of the country.
When there are no fleecing doctors/hospitals in Australia, Germany, Denmark etc we are not prepared to examine. All whistle blowers, honest doctors in govrnment hopitals are punished with inconvenient transfers or  made doctors on Special duties (i.e. no active duty). We may do endless discussion on this subject, nothing will change unless we change Socialism to Liberalism.

Well said Harpal.

The problem is that only DOCTORS are supposed to make sacrifices and give SELFELESS Services to the society.

It is not applicable to other professionals (like Lawyers, CA) who sometimes charge lakhs of rupees as their fee.

It is because we are emotionally exploited as we are handling human lives. But the society forgets that years and years of hard work, dedication and sacrifices to become a doctor.

It is totally a Government failure as the resources are far too meager for our population. Residents are overworked. Only doctors are supposed to serve Rural Folks, no body else !!!

The problem with profit is based on government policies. Why are corporate companies allowed to open and operate hospitals or healthcare??

These are for profit companies and for them hospital is another enterprise!!!

Why government cannot create enough well paying jobs with good working condition and professional satisfaction so that doctors do not have to look for jobs elsewhere???

Our government is for the corporate, by the corporate and to the corporate

Today there is lot of hue & cry regarding doctors minting money. The actual problem is that the medical treatment has become costly not because of doctors but because of the govt. Policies.

Why there is no proper drug pricing. Today a doctor earns less then a chemist on his prescription & that too without any strings attached  like reaction , no response , responsibility etc. odd hour consultation ,free consultation &charity. But nothing about lawyers, cA architects politicians .

The point raised has some validity but the solutions would be:

Insist on numbered receipt for all payments.

Pay by credit card/debit card.

Most hospitals do not accept cheques because of numerous instances of cheques bouncing.

It is sad  that many private hospitals , clinics and doctors have become the den of corruption.  Clinics & doctors  insist on cash payment of fees and do not give receipts. They have no norms in charging fees and have become an exploitative class. Almost all of them accumulate huge black money and evade taxes.

Obviously, central government and income tax department know that  almost all doctors do not pay taxes properly but governments do not care to question them. Hospitals , clinics and doctors very rarely receive tax violation notice and they are rarely raided by income tax department.

The poor people are the worst sufferers. With most government hospitals having  poor standards and many government doctors are indifferent and private hospitals and doctors fleecing the patients, people from lower income group face desperate conditions when  they fall ill.

Government has the responsibility to discipline the hospitals and doctors and insist on norms for demanding fees. Hospitals, clinics and doctors should be directed to accept fees beyond Rs. 1000  only by cheque and they should give receipt for any fees received above Rs. 50

Time has come for people to protest effectively against the fleecing hospitals. Clinics and doctors.
