Good discussion here.
No one can doubt nationalist thinking of Bengali folk in the pre Independence times and post.
Without knowing much details abt the actual happenings in those times, one thinks that we shd give Jana Gana Mana due respect.
What one finds totally abhorrent is JNU type of Politics which is not 'free wheeling' but SELF SERVING to say the least.
I happened to be there for a while in the 80s and it's a picnic out there.
Studies shd be regulated and time bound.
This one says with respect to current times with World Economy looking towards India as a viable option.
I think its a opportunity of a life time and instead if getting diverted by our internal politics of Sibal ji and likes we shd look ahead.
The above is said in my capacity as a common man who has limited understanding of high politics.
Utmost Respect to all.

The need to 'respect' the views, however preposterous, of people in high elected office in India is what has made us into a nation of sheep, herded by rank opportunists, money making gnomes, liars and crooks.
In a democracy we have a right to criticize the speech and actions of so-called elected leaders. Does the good major not read how vehemently people all over the free and unfree world oppose ruling governments and their functionaries? Should a person who compared a prime minister to God not be seen as either very foolish or a sycophantic opportunist?
It is true however that we are approaching a fascist totalitarian state where young people who critique or ridicule state figures and policies are arrested by cyber sleuths, the new Gestapo, causing them endless expense and. torment. And influential voices of rationalists, independent media persons, and common citizens are silenced by the hired gun.
With respect to the singing of the so-called national song, we must remember that it is a product of the Shakta culture of East Bengal, now Bangladesh, and addressed in its unexpurgated form to a Goddess  who may not be the deity respected by millions of our nation who have their own versions of what is god.

Why should any one explain to you the conduct of the Honourable Vice President of India ? In what way is he answerable to you for his speeches?

The Mayor of Meerut has stopped the singing of national song Vande Mataram and restored the singing of national anthem Jana Gana Mana...
Nothing wrong with that as per business rules of the local body. Both the national anthem and national song are sung in parliament of India every day of the session.

Thus it becomes a political issue.

If the Indian V.P. comments on any issue. His views need to be respected. Agreeing or disagreeing with his views is your prerogative, Sir ji.

As per news report like those appended, a newly elected BSP (Bahujan Samajwadi Party) mayor in Uttar Pradesh has restored the singing of the National Anthem (Jana Gana Mana) before commencing meeting business of the Meerut Municipality Board

However, our Hon'ble Vice President is apparently insulting our national anthem by comparing the compulsory singing of India's national anthem (Jana Gana Mana) to praising of Afzal Guru. Can somebody explain this bizarre anti-national approach of our Hon'ble VP for me.  Is there something we are missing ? Is there some misreporting in the media of our VP's observations ?
