THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The administrative freeze in the State Information
Commission following the retirement of Chief Information Commissioner
Palat Mohandas nearly a month ago is all set to be remedied with the
decision to give the additional charge of the CIC to State Information
Commissioner V V Giri.
Highly placed sources said a government order to this effect will be
issued on October 25.
Sources said a proposal in this regard which had been sent to the
Governor from the General Administration Department has been approved.
V V Giri is set to retire in December 2010.
'Express' had earlier reported that the LDF Government would opt for a
person who could complete a five year tenure as the Chief Information
Commissioner.
The report also spoke of an administrative crisis within the State
Information Commission after the top post was left vacant.
Because, according to section 15(4) of the RTI, the administration
will be carried out by the Chief Information Commissioner with the
assistance of other commissioners.
'Express' had also reported that former Chief Secretary Lissie Jacob
topped the list of probables for the post of the Chief Information
Commissioner.
Additional Chief Secretary K Jayakumar is the other major contender.
However, Lissie Jacob will not be able to complete a five year tenure
