[rti_india] RTI Information says Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation built 4960 Flats for EWS Flats during ten year period. Now, AMC to build for Middle Income. Where do poor live?

Chief Minister,
Govt of Gujarat,
Gandhinagar

Dear Sir,

RTI information obtained by me from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation said 4960 Flats were built by AMC during ten year period when need is for few lakhs of dwelling units for basic necessity of life. (http://xrl.us/bh6i65). While every year 8000 units were to be built every year, how many built & how many allotted is a question.

Now, new Mayor says, AMC will build houses for middle class.

Who will then provide and when the roof over the heads of poor?

Regards,

AMC to build affordable houses

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Ahmedabad: By early next year, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will launch an affordable housing scheme for the middle class in the western outskirts of the city, said AsitVora, the city's new mayor.

The scheme, according to Vora, will be different from the ongoing Economically Weaker Section (EWS) for slum rehabilitation, and will be catering to the urban middle class which can not afford houses at the current realty rates.

"We have identified the land for the purpose and have consulted AUDA for the scheme. The AMC and the urban development department are jointly working on the project. The exact details will be made available during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit to be held early next year. The AMC housing scheme will not be an EWS scheme — which mainly concerns rehabilitating urban slum dwellers — but will cater to those who can't afford houses in the western part of the city," explained Vora.

Apart from this, Vora has also promised a special policy that will be implemented before this year end to help solve the problem of slum encroachment on AMC land as well as private land. "The policy involves allotting a section of the encroached plot area to multi-storied dwelling for slums, while the rest can be used by the developer. However, the AMC will apply this policy to its own land first," said Vora.

Vora has also expressed his determination to intensify cleanliness drives and spruce up door-to-door garbage collection in the city. "Garbage collection happens to be one of the main issues for the citizens today. We have gauged this from the number of requests that we receive in a day at our zonal offices," he said.

Also on the cards are speeding work on construction, setting up more water distribution centers and sewerage pumping stations in the city to solve problems of water pressure and lessening load on existing drainage lines.

"Additional urban health centers and new fire stations to provide immediate relief to industrial areas and to the newly merged areas are another major concern," he added.
